In celebration of General Santos City Youth Festival, YABONG, led by its founder, Dun Concha Abiera, partnered with Youth Affairs and Development Office, in the leadership of Ms. Sahara Enriquez Cabreros, to conduct and launch the first-ever Promoting Media and Information Literacy Camp in youth-led organizations in General Santos. The 2-day camp housed 30 participants from 10 various organizations in the city in Maharlika Beach Resort last March 20 to 21, 2021.
To bridge the technological gap among youth, as well as to build a better and safer digital space in the city, the camp was composed of lectures and mentoring from the YABONG core team, and project pitching where the winners, Team Project ME. GO. SHOW of Katipunan ng Kabataan Fatima and Team "CLASSchive: Your Digital Classroom Companion of MSU GSC Senior High School Supreme Student Government received grants to champion their digital campaign initiatives within their own communities. Funded by the Local Government Unit of General Santos City, ProMIL will be showcased every year as part of the celebration to continue championing MIL and promote a safer and better General Santos.
Despite the challenges of the pandemic, the first-ever MIL event in General Santos was made possible through the core team of YABONG Philippines and full support of the YADO Head, Ms. Sahara Jho Cabreros, and team, and to the City Mayor, Ronnel C. Rivera, represented by Mr. Enrique Voltaire Tiu, CMO Chief of Staff.
